Fall In Love with Fall Skincare

Now that summer has officially come to an end, we need to get our skincare regimen ready for the cooler months ahead. Seasonal skincare looks at the affects that the environment has on the health of our skin and works to harmonize our routines with that of the external world. Beginning in autumn and continuing through winter, temperatures drop (becoming outright Baltic in some places), humidity decreases, and winds can become so strong that it feels as if they’re going through us. These changes work to make our skin drier and can potentially weaken our skin barrier. To help skin stay in balance through the beginning of polar chill, we need to change up our skincare routine a bit.

Here are Vie de Mer’s five tips for gorgeous skin for the cooler months:

Moisturizers Are Crucial. To protect your skin from the cooling air, moisturize twice a day. This will keep your skin barrier in top shape. During the day, opt for a lightweight product that is still deeply hydrating, while at night, you can go with a heavier option. Start your day with Vie de Mer’s Soothing Day Crème. This perfectly hydrating product is rich in sugar kelp, fatty acids, and polysaccharides. At night, choose Vie de Mer’s Soothing Night Crème. Borage and tamanu oils combine with soothing licorice root, and moisture boosting polysaccharides to sumptuously give skin the moisture it craves.

Bring Some Humidity Back. Cold weather isn’t the only part of winter that dries the skin. Heating systems dry the air even further, making hydration an even greater challenge. To keep your skin healthy at home, choose a good humidifier. Ideal humidity ranges between forty and fifty percent. Keep your moisture going with a cool shower or bath. Even though a hot shower might seem nurturing, it depletes skin of moisture, leaving it prone to dryness and conditions such as eczema.

Add Red Algae to Your Skincare. Red algae is a superfood for the skin. Not only does it help to strengthen barrier function, but it also deeply hydrates cells, helping to reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the same way as hyaluronic acid. A key compound in red algae, astaxanthin, is a potent antioxidant, and works to curb moisture loss. For a dose of red algae, try Vie de Mer’s Ultimate Eye Cream. With twenty percent of the formula comprised of red algae, your skin will get the nourishment it needs.

SPF Is Still Your Friend. We often associate SPF with the summer months only. The sun is stronger, and we tend to spend more time outdoors. Sun protection, however, is a year-round must. The fall is a stormier season, with a lot of cloud cover, but UVA rays still get through. Those damaging rays are so strong that they can penetrate glass, making it crucial to wear sun protection indoors as well. Look for a product that has is SPF 30 or higher like Vie de Mer’s Anti-Aging Sunblock SPF 50. If you go outside, remember to reapply every 2-3 hours.

Red Ginseng Gives Skin a Boost. Skin can head to the dull side once summer wraps up. To help brighten your skin, use a product packed with red ginseng. This herb boost circulation and brightens the complexion, leaving skin vibrant and energized. It also is a powerful adaptogen, which helps to normalize body functions, making it a perfect accessory for getting in tune with the fall season. To give your eyes some TLC, go with Vie de Mer’s Wrinkle Correcting Eye Serum. At 20% red ginseng, this serum is a must-have for richly protected, gorgeous eyes.
